A systematic review of experimental research in audiovisual translation 1992–2020

Abstract This study systematically reviewed 61 experimental studies on audiovisual translation (AVT), published in academic journals between 1992 and 2020. The review examined five aspects of these studies: publication trends, research scopes, designs, statistical procedures, reporting practices. Major findings include: (a) there has been a slight concentration outlets for AVT research; (b) the focal could be categorized into three themes (product, process, pedagogy), with product theme being most popular subtitling dominant modality; (c) inclusion comparison group was common design feature, questionnaires tests were instruments; (d) inferential analysis favored over descriptive analysis; (e) data normality information effect sizes not regularly reported. Based systematic review, suggestions are made future development research.
